Surprise!
I was on my way home from the shops when I decided to stop near the murder to have my lunch. They know me well. For the past year I have been offering them some tasty snacks: cat kibble, suet blocks broken up in pieces, roasted peanuts, the odd meat pie.. Every morning and every evening without fail and in all weathers, they know I’ll be there. Not just any human, but THEIR human.
I think they were a little surprised to see me at lunch time today though, probably because that’s never 'our' time. Well... guess what...it was our time today: SURPRISE!
They spotted me straight away as soon as I stepped foot in the park, but took their time to fly over. That’s cool... I sat on the grass, the sun was shining on my face, and I was enjoying the birds chirping when all of a sudden ALL of them, at the SAME TIME (!!) decided to take off and fly towards me...
People were stopped in their tracks due to the crow commotion - they are not exactly the quietest of birds, are they?
It was a little embarrassing, but cute. My dark cloud of joy: 20 something crows, most of them youngsters who have not started the nesting season just yet.
Anyway, I digress... I was sitting on the grass, completely oblivious to the world around, just enjoying my egg sandwich, and sharing it with some of the crows who dared to come closer, when some calls were made. These sweet, low-toned caws felt as if they were whispering to me... and then they all got themselves into THAT disperse (but close) formation. 🤔
Another thing they often do is surround me in a circle, with me seated in the middle of it.
I have no idea what this all means, but I’d like to think I have been accepted as being a respected member of the gang.
This murder is quite something. ❤️
